5 Ways to Clean Your Virtual Desktop

In honor of “Clean Your Virtual Desktop Day” this week, we would love to provide you with 4 easy steps to help you clean up your virtual desktop. When you’re working, your virtual desktop can fill up quickly. You may end up with icons all over the place and find it difficult to find what you need when you want it. The benefits of having a clean virtual desktop are endless. It can boost your productivity, decrease distractions, lower your security risks, and help you stay creative while working on projects.

Why Is It Necessary To Clean Your Virtual Desktop?

Keeping your desktop organized is essential to your productivity and boosting your desktop’s performance. However, they also allow you to create a cluttered virtual desktop that is difficult to navigate through (and not very pretty). When your virtual desktop becomes filled with icons from past projects or other files, it’s time for some deep cleaning! When you organize and clean out your virtual desktop, you’re also saving valuable time. Think about how long you wait for your computer to load or search for a file. If you have your virtual desktop organized, you will be able to gain something genuinely priceless: time.

The Risk For Cyberattacks With Unorganized Desktop

The reality is that a disorganized desktop is also a dangerous desktop due to the increased risk for cyberattacks. When you give up firewalls, encryption, and organized filing, you’re also leaving your virtual valuables out in the open for someone to see. If you’re working in finance, insurance, education, or healthcare, it’s also the law to keep your virtual desktop organized and secure. Let’s get into how we can easily tidy up your virtual desktop so that you can stay protected and productive.

1. Decide What Is Essential

The first step in the process of cleaning out your virtual desktop is to decide what is essential. This includes freeing up space on your cloud, which will also increase its performance. You can also use folders to keep your files where they need to go and decide what folders are essential, and you may be surprised at how many folders you have lying around that are no longer required on your virtual desktop.

2. Clean Out Your Inbox

Cleaning out your virtual inbox seems obvious, but it is so essential to do it regularly. We suggest getting rid of the emails you no longer need and unsubscribing to places that no longer interest you. It would be best to clean out your downloads folder because that can quickly get filled with years worth of garbage.

3. Dial Back on Shortcuts

The key to eliminating shortcuts is to cut back on the number of shortcuts located on your desktop; they are much easier to find when you need them from the Windows start menu or the Finder on Mac.

4. Utilize Taskbar

The taskbar is created due to its ability to keep your desktop organized and functional. For the programs and apps you use frequently, place them on your taskbar. That way, you can easily find them rather than having them on your desktop page.

5. Consolidate

If you have to keep many files on your virtual desktop, make sure to keep them organized with various folders so you can always find what you need when you need it. Taking the extra time to go through your computer and see what things you can clear out will make a difference in your day-to-day workday, and with some of us using our computers for work now more than ever, this process should be a top priority.
